Achieving Serenity

When you are going through hard times you need a method that will sustain you. In 1932, American theologian Reinhold, wrote The Serenity Prayer; “ God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Those suffering from emotional and physical trauma, that practiced the wisdom in this prayer, were healed.

The wisdom in this prayer is profound: peace, acceptance, courage, knowledge, and reliance on God. Life is a struggle, and having God on our side to strengthen and encourage us makes a big difference. “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Peace comes from God.

It’s important to realize peace and chaos cannot coexist. Peace comes from God, chaos is a worldly thing. Our suffering is more tolerable when we accept the things we cannot change, have the courage to change the things that we can, and gain the wisdom to know the difference. If we seek God’s peace, we will have serenity. Love and blessings to all, Carby.
