God is our greatest protector. “May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you” (Psalm 20:1). The world is Satan’s playground. We are in the world but not of the world. We are both physical and spiritual beings; and can resist temptation when we align spiritually with God’s presence, who St. Patrick says is everywhere. My hope and prayer is that we seek God’s presence today, and every day; love and blessings, Carby.
This prayer tells us that God is all around us: above, below, at our side, everywhere. “Christ in the heart of every man that thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.” St. Patrick’s love for all mankind is evident by this quote. St. Patrick’s use of a breastplate in this prayer was aware of Satan’s perversions.
In the Bible we are told to put on the full armor of God to withstand the devil’s schemes. “The whole armor includes: The Helmet of Salvation, the Shield of Faith, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Belt of Truth, the Sword of the Spirit, and the Gospel of Peace” (Ephesians 6:14-17, condensed). The Breastplate protects the heart and other vital organs, and was used in St. Patrick’s prayer.
