One of my favorite poems was written by St. Teresa of Avila (1515-1582). “Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, all things pass away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. He who has God finds he lacks nothing; God alone suffices.” If Christ is in your heart, you have everything you need. In Christ we have love, grace, peace, His presence, his sufficiency, and His protection.
Under God’s protection we have nothing to fear. God is love and there is no fear in His love. “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear,” (1 John 4:18). Why do we fear? “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind,” (2 Timothy 1:7. Our fears come from worldly beliefs. We are under the protection of our Holy Father, the Good Sheppard, and we have nothing to fear.
Because we are human and are in the world we will at times be afraid. However, we can take comfort knowing that our God is always with us: “….I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; they rod and thy staff they comfort me,” ( Psalm 22:4). My hope and prayer is that any fear you have will quickly pass, just like St. Teresa eloquently stated in her poem. Love and blessings; Carby.
