Achieving Greater Patience

Patience truly is a virtue. If you are like me there are times when we wish we had more patience. Somehow we have to overcome the tendency to react quickly. I’m learning to do that, but along the way there are lapses. I’m reminded of a powerful poem written by St. Teresa of Avila centuries ago.

Let nothing frighten you…………………………..All things pass away;…..God never changes……………………Patience obtains all things, He who has God……………………….Finds he lacks nothing;………..God alone suffices……………. Teresa of Jesus.

Although I still need more patience with my family in conversations; what I have found helpful for me is the practice of meditation. During meditation a peacefulness and calm occurs when you patiently sit still. Prayer also develops patience, as we patiently wait on an answer from God. “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;…..” (Psalm 37:7).

Reaching out to God is the answer to acquiring greater patience. My hope and prayer is for those and myself short on patience find ways that will help us become more patient with ourselves and others. Until the next time with love and blessings to all, Carbie.
