How can I become a more loving person? If “God is love“ ( 1 John 4:8) and he is, the answer is clear. Get closer to God. As close as I think that I am to God, if my talk, walk, and actions, are not always with love; I need a greater closeness to God. The next time we respond or act in a non-loving manner, be aware of it, and silently turn to God. This will immediately cancel out any inappropriate response. God’s presence will quickly fill your heart with love.
God is the source of all love. When we are lacking in love; it makes sense to go to God as often as needed throughout the day; for strength to respond in a more loving manner. “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love, whoever lives in love lives in God, and God is in him.” (1 John 4:16). Life gives us daily many opportunities to love in situations that present themselves throughout the day. Because we are human, we do not always respond in the most loving way.
God commands us to love one another, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34). Our obedience to the word of God brings us closer to a loving God, and makes us a more loving person.
