SERENITY

I believe most of you are familiar with the Serenity Prayer, but for the few of you who might not be I’ll repeat it here: “God grant me Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.” It is a simple but powerful prayer.

If we follow these three basic principles we will struggle less and surly achieve more peace in our lives. If you are like me, and I believe like many of us, we often over commit, and then wonder why we feel so stressed.

A beautiful poem by Gail Brook Burket reminds us that we are not alone. “I do not ask to walk smooth paths, nor bear an easy load. I pray for strength and fortitude to climb the rock-strewn road. Give me such courage I can scale the hardest peaks alone, and transform every stumbling block into a stepping stone.”

We are never alone. God’s presence is always with us. We only need to ask the Lord’s help when we get in over our heads. God has no limitations and will work with you if you ask. He will give you the courage needed to change what needs changing. “Have I not commanded you ? Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

First, we must accept what we are powerless to change. However, God can intervene and make any change that serves His purpose. Second, God gives us the courage and wisdom needed, but first we have to ask. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Mathew 7:7)

The predominant principle needed is Wisdom. If we have wisdom the Serenity Prayer will work for you in a miraculous way. “ Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch ever you.” (Proverbs 4:6). It’s imperative that we get wisdom. Having more wisdom will allow you to make better choices and decisions for a more joy filled life.

My prayer and hope for you is that God gives you the serenity and peace that we seek. May the love and power of God continue to flow abundantly in your life. Love and blessings to all, Godspeed, Carbie.
