A classic book on private prayer that I have been using was written in 1936 and regarded as a devotional classic. The author was a Scottish theologian named John Baillie. It’s a one month devotional on private prayer titled “A Diary of Private Prayer.”
I start my morning of prayer and meditation by reading his thoughts for the day. An example would be from day twenty- five morning: “A wise man said, Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.” “A wise woman said, the divine moment is the present moment.” This short book of 135 pages is filled worth unbelievable golden nuggets throughout.
I believe it’s important to expect great things from God. It’s an attitude and mindset to do so. If we expect great things our actions will be such that we will want to do great things for God. With this mindset and attitude it will keep us from having limited thoughts, and thoughts that we are not good enough. “I can do all things through Christ which strengthenth me.” (Philippians 4:13) tells us with God all things are possible. It’s important to expect and do great things for God.
The second thought is that the divine moment is the present moment. Our present moment is the only thing that we can truly control. The past is gone, the future is yet too come. But the present is what we have right now. Is it a divine moment for you? It can be for you and for me if we allow it. Choose Jesus often during the day. I know we are busy during the day but it only takes a moment to pause and remember Jesus, just a glimpse, his name, the Jesus Prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.” This will keep us connected throughout the day, giving you many divine moments.
I pray that you have many divine moments throughout your day. May the love and power of God be with you, have a great Day! Love and blessings, Godspeed, Carbie.
