DEALING WITH FEAR

We are living in unchartered times. It’s hard to believe how much our country and the world has experienced in the past year and a half. We have endured so much as a nation, but we have so much more to overcome before we are free and clear of everything our country is bombarded with. Our country is fighting on multiple fronts: the border, illegal immigration, drugs, human rights violations, inflation, employment, unemployment, the pipeline, taxes, crime, riots, prejudices, discrimination, racism, and the list goes on and on.

The point I’m trying to make is that there seems to be a lot of fear going on at the federal, state, local, and within individuals. We must learn to deal with any fear we face head on if we expect to make any progress. A while back I wrote a poem about fear. If you will allow me I’d like to share it with you now.

FEAR

One of our strongest and most debilitating emotions that can totally consume you at times is fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of a potential consequence when a certain action is taken, fear of a certain person or thing fear of war, or to a lesser degree conflict. Fear of being unemployed, the list is endless.

The point is that most of us are afraid of something: insects, spiders, flying, elevators, snakes, heights, etc. Fear is extremely common but needs to be nipped in the bud as soon as possible if not, it can paralyze a person to inaction.

It can set into motion other negative patterns such as fear to act, not wanting to do anything, a type of laziness might begin to consume you. Your attitude has completely changed from being positive, and now being consumed by fear and turning to a more negative attitude, making you lethargic and not wanting to do anything.

This is a very unproductive state to be in and you need to snap out of all this negativity as quickly as possible. First, you must identify what is causing you to be afraid , then you must challenge that fear by confronting your fear head on. You must recognize that the fear was created in your imagination and your mind, and it will take time and effort to rid yourself of what caused the fear.

You were not born with your fear the only two fears that existed upon birth were the fear of noise and the fear of falling. Any other fear has been acquired somehow, someway. Your challenge is to work on one fear at a time. Take the fear that has caused you a lot of grief and meet it square in the eyes. If you can and this might take sometime, find out when and how this fear originated. If you can find the source this will help you to eliminate it.

But even without knowing the source of the fear you can still eliminate fear from your life, one step at a time. It’s hard work that has to be done if you want to lead a more fulfilled and complete life. Live one day at a time, but when you begin the hard work to eliminate fear from your life you will find yourself in a much more positive state. You will feel more relaxed and calm. You will be able to think better, and get more done.

Step one: eliminate the fear. How? whatever it takes. If you are afraid of heights take baby steps at first. Each time you climb go a little higher each time. For most growth to occur you have to be willing to go beyond you comfort zone. The reward will be less anxiety and nervousness

It will feel as if you are not making any progress, but in reality you are. It will be gradual and you’ll have to be patient. But if you are persistent you will succeed. Live one day at a time, work on your fear each time it comes up and in time that fear will be eliminated from your life. You will begin to feel such a liberation and freedom that you haven’t felt in such a long time.

You will feel empowered because you stood the test and were able to overcome a fear that was holding you back. Someday we might here “Great job good and faithful servant. “

An important point in this poem is that most fears are learned. If we have learned to be afraid of something or someone it was learned, and therefore can be unlearned. Fear can paralyze a person and most fears are from an overworked imagination. We have to eliminate any fears we might have real or imagined. Eliminating any fear you have will truly set you free, and we all definitely need to be free. Do your self a favor and please get rid of any fear you have. It will be an unbelievable weight lifted from your shoulders. A verse in the Bible puts it this way There is no fear in love, but perfect love cast out fear. ( 1 John 4:18). Until the next time, Godspeed, Carbie out.
