A Simple Meditation

I would like to preface my thoughts on meditation by letting you know that meditation can be challenging but entirely worth the effort I hope you are willing to put into it. Is it frustrating at times? Yes. Can it be discouraging? Yes. Is it worth pursuing? In my opinion absolutely and here’s why. Meditation is silent prayer and the few moments you are on the same wavelength with your Creator makes it all worth it.

I must be truthful these moments are fleeting, but when you engage with the universe or your higher power, it is so worth it. The key is to stay focused with the meditation, and don’t give into thoughts that are telling you stop, that this isn’t working. It’s a lie don’t give into these thoughts. Meditation is both simple and difficult at the same time. Physically it can be simple to sit, and close your eyes. The difficulty comes in keeping your thoughts still. to help you do this I will take you through a simple meditation. I’ve used a form of this meditation in classrooms and teacher workshops.

Sitting upright in a chair with soft music playing in the background take a few deep breaths and either fold your hands or rest them on your thighs. Close your eyes and focus on the area around your heart. Visualize someone you care for deeply, a child, a spouse, a significant other, or your higher power. Imagine you are with that person in one of your favorite locations. Begin to emotionally feel a strong bond and connection with that individual. Feel the intensity as you continue to focus in the area around your heart while breathing in a natural rhythmic manner.

If your mind begins to wander ignore those random thoughts and continue to stay focused on your visual image. To help you refocus you can use a trigger word or focus on your breathing. The final link in this meditation is to engage your mind with your heart. When you link your heart with your mind you are in a peak state called entrainment. This is the height of relaxation and calm. You can stay in this state until you are ready to open your eyes. When you do you will feel energized. This is a simple but powerful meditation. I hope you give it a try. Until the next time, Godspeed, Carbie.
