Thoughts

Today I’d like to share a poem I wrote while teaching at Valley State prison for Women in 2006. it’s called THOUGHTS.

I love thinking beautiful thoughts. My mind becomes alive, my body responds accordingly. But more importantly my spirit begins to soar.

If I could keep my focus on these positive thoughts, thoughts of love, kindness, joy, happiness, peace, contentment, appreciation.

My health would improve, my body would feel better, but more importantly I would become a better and stronger person.

What is the secret? Why do I struggle with much difficulty keeping my thoughts positive? When God made me did he leave out some parts in my construction? I think not.

The struggle has always been with myself it’s my own pride that gets in my way. I’m to proud to admit I can’t handle something on my own, and the more I try and go it alone the more difficult life gets.

So what is the solution? I believe once we decide to turn our lives over to God or a Higher Power we no longer are doing it alone. Faith in a Spirit we can’t see is a stumbling block for many people.

But faith along with surrender is a dynamic combination that assures victory to one who is willing to make this commitment. Once we decide to surrender we have a Senior Partner who will redirect our lives and thinking.

Will my negative thoughts ever disappear? I think not. But they will become less and less each time we engage and focus on our Senior Partner.

Does evil exist? As long as evil exists I think negative thoughts will exist. In a sense our thoughts are on a Spiritual plane. Good vs. evil so how do we become master of our thoughts?

We must focus on what is good, loving, caring, and joyful. Each time we catch ourselves thinking thoughts of fear, hate, envy, jealousy, pride, anger, we must replace that thought with a powerful vision.

A vision that is full of love, power, beauty, that absorbs your thoughts, instantly. That bathes your mind in what is good and loving. This is how we defeat our negative thought. We decide we want victory over them. Them we constantly monitor our thinking, when a negative thought creeps in, zap it and replace it with loving thought.

There is no magic bullet. But a sincere willingness to pursue a positive change in your life. We must first start with controlling our thinking. Nothing happens without a thought first. Control your thoughts and allow the Good Lord to become the master of your life.
