The Importance of Focus

In my last post I introduced the power of changing your state and how quickly that can be done. You can quickly achieve a much more relaxed calm and peaceful state when you follow that simple technique.

Focus is the key to changing your state in a very quick manner. If your focus has been on how bad things have gotten it’s no wonder more people are suffering from depression and anxiety. You need to change your focus before getting sucked into a quagmire of defeatism. The faster you change your focus the quicker you will stop feeling sorry for yourself.

Let me repeat that. You control whether you feel depressed or anxious or peaceful, calm, and more loving. And you can change your emotional state instantly by changing your focus.

Changing your emotional state is easier than you think. Just change your focus. However, you need to use the power of your imagination, and your ability to create. And that’s easy too. Nothing here so far is hard. It’s very simple, but it requires that you trust yourself that you can do it and believe me you can.

For example, if I tell you not to think of a pink elephant, what’s the first thing that pops into your mind? An elephant right? That’s how quickly your focus just changed. Or I tell you not to think about how sour a lemon tastes. Most people will think about that, and some might even taste the sour lemon juice. That’s how powerful and creative our imaginations can be.

So you see how easy it is to change your focus. But first you need a trigger that will help you create the shift. Usually a few deep slow breaths will do the trick. Three to five deep slow breaths should do the trick, and prepare you to make the shift.

One of the quickest methods to shift your emotional state from fear or anxiety to love, peace, and calm is to immediately focus on your heart. Your heart is the key to the positive emotions you want to illicit. Keep your focus on your heart until you begin feeling more calm and peace. The more you practice this technique the easier it gets.

To help you connect with your heart you can visualize someone or something you care deeply about. Before you know it your emotional state has shifted too a much more positive state. Isn’t that great, and you shifted your state instantly. Your belief that you can create this emotional state instantly will be the power needed to create this change. In the next post I’ll focus on how important belief is to increasing your full potential.
